HOUSE and room designers should now consider technology, nature and sustainability while doing their designs, several experts pointed out.
In a panel discussion titled “Envisioning the Homes for the Future” in Lamudi’s Philippine Real Estate Conference, held on Aug. 31, 2022, Philippine Daily Inquirer property section editor Theresa “Tek” Samaniego, Robinsons Land Corp. Senior Business Development Director Czarina Lugue, IODHome Inc. Sales and Marketing Vice President SJ Kang and Contempo Property Holdings Marketing Communication consultant Joy Ablanda emphasized the importance of the three factors as most buyers consider these options when choosing a home.
“The last two years of the pandemic have reshaped our preferences and our way of living as we adapt to the so-called new normal,” Samaniego said in her opening remarks.
She added that the Covid-19 pandemic also underscored the importance of having a safe, profitable and dignified living environment, and that buyers value health and family more than ever before.
Ablanda explained that company Contempo reconfigured their offerings and designs in order to cater to the buyers’ changing needs, such as allocating an all-purpose room in their designs that could be used for multiple purposes, such as an isolation room, disinfection room or even as an extra guest room.

“In addition to this, we also incorporated our places to have balconies so they can enjoy a bit of the outdoors as well,” Ablanda said.
Kang said that customers are also looking into multipurpose appliances and furniture as living spaces are maximized in order to replicate the feeling of being outdoors and as new hobbies are being discovered by people who are forced to stay home.
Sustainability also comes into play as buyers are now becoming more environment-conscious and want to reduce their excess usage as much as they can. Lague pointed out that an interest in Smart homes or houses which have features that can be activated remotely, based on the technology of the Internet of Things, also increased as people are now tech-savvy.
“Technology will play a big part for the new generation of buyers but again, sustainability has also become a factor as it has become the norm as well,” said Lague.
